Surah 18 Al-Kahf, ayah 55 (18:55)

Ayah 18:55

وَمَا مَنَعَ ٱلنَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِذْ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ قُبُلًا۝٥٥

Arabic transliteration · Source: TanzilWama manaAAa alnnasa an yuminoo ith jaahumu alhuda wayastaghfiroo rabbahum illa an tatiyahum sunnatu alawwaleena aw yatiyahumu alAAathabu qubulan

English · Saheeh InternationalAnd nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that there [must] befall them the [accustomed] precedent of the former peoples or that the punishment should come [directly] before them.

German · Bubenheim & ElyasUnd nichts anderes hielt die Menschen davon ab, zu glauben, als die Rechtleitung zu ihnen kam, und ihren Herrn um Vergebung zu bitten, außer (ihrer Forderung), daß an ihnen nach der Gesetzmäßigkeit der Früheren verfahren werde oder daß die Strafe vor ihren Augen über sie komme.
