Surah 53 An-Najm, ayah 23 (53:23)

Ayah 53:23

إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَٰنٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ۝٢٣

Arabic transliteration · Source: TanzilIn hiya illa asmaon sammaytumooha antum waabaokum ma anzala Allahu biha min sultanin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wama tahwa alanfusu walaqad jaahum min rabbihimu alhuda

English · Saheeh InternationalThey are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.

German · Bubenheim & ElyasDas sind nur Namen, die ihr genannt habt, ihr und eure Väter, für die Allah (aber) keine Ermächtigung herabgesandt hat. Sie folgen nur Vermutungen und dem, wozu sie selbst neigen, wo doch bereits von ihrem Herrn die Rechtleitung zu ihnen gekommen ist.
