Surah 6 Al-An'aam, ayah 42 (6:42)

Ayah 6:42

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَأَخَذْنَٰهُم بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُونَ۝٤٢

Arabic transliteration · Source: TanzilWalaqad arsalna ila omamin min qablika faakhathnahum bialbasai waalddarrai laAAallahum yatadarraAAoona

English · Saheeh InternationalAnd We have already sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muhammad]; then We seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps they might humble themselves [to Us].

German · Bubenheim & ElyasWir haben ja schon zu Gemeinschaften vor dir (Gesandte) gesandt und über sie Not und Leid kommen lassen, auf daß sie unterwürfig flehen mögen.
