Surah 9 At-Tawba, ayah 42 (9:42)

Ayah 9:42

لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضًا قَرِيبًا وَسَفَرًا قَاصِدًا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُ وَسَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَوِ ٱسْتَطَعْنَا لَخَرَجْنَا مَعَكُمْ يُهْلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ۝٤٢

English · Saheeh InternationalHad it been an easy gain and a moderate trip, the hypocrites would have followed you, but distant to them was the journey. And they will swear by Allah, "If we were able, we would have gone forth with you," destroying themselves [through false oaths], and Allah knows that indeed they are liars.

German · Bubenheim & ElyasWenn es um nahe Glücksgüter und eine mäßige Reise ginge, würden sie dir wahrlich folgen. Aber die Entfernung ist ihnen zu weit. Und dennoch werden sie bei Allah schwören: "Wenn wir (es) könnten, würden wir fürwahr mit euch hinausziehen." Dabei vernichteten sie sich selbst. Doch Allah weiß, daß sie wahrlich lügen.
